How I work

My approach is psychodynamic, which is rooted in psychoanalytic theory. Psychoanalytic theory focuses on the notion of the unconscious, suggesting that, to differing levels we can be unaware of underlying motives or deeper feelings.

There is also a focus on earlier life and upbringing and how these may link to present experiences.

There could be patterns of behaviour that have been causing a feeling of being 'stuck'; these patterns are often shaped by our past experiences and are not in our awareness, becoming obstacles to moving forward or understanding what our feelings mean. I see my role not as directive but as guiding you to access your own capacity to uncover what is beneath your difficulties, what it is that may not have been conscious. I value the relationship between you and myself and believe this to be a vital part of the work. My aim is to build a trusting therapeutic alliance by listening carefully and offering a safe, containing space. Through this process there is the possibility to work through the obstacles in your way together and ultimately for you to move through your life with more awareness, freedom and creativity.
